The lessons from the Bhagwad Gita – the song of the Lord, a specially designed course for children was organised by the Kandivli Education Society’s Parivartan Pustakalay & Meet India (Masti ki Pathshala), curated and conducted by Dr Sangeeta Srivastava, from 24/6/24 to 29/6/24. The six days interactive program was attended by 45 children from various schools from Malad to Borivli. There was also an introductory session for the parents on the first day.

The sessions are in the format of workshops, with stories and creative, interactive activities for children, making them understand the essence of the messages in the timeless scripture the Bhagwad Gita. They learn few relevant selected age appropriate shlokas with meanings.
They also learn about tools to practice goal setting, time management, importance of focus and mind control, in a play way method and real anecdotes, videos and pictures. The course is laced with stories and songs for children conveying messages connecting to the scripture. Some real life examples help them understand the importance of infinite latent power of the human mind.
The participants were very enthusiastic and were supported by a group of young volunteers from Meet India.

The children were encouraged to create any art work, poem or prose based on their learning’s on the final day which was presented to the parents.
All participants were presented with certificates, a beautiful diary for journaling and bookmarks by the organisers. Guest Ms Ruchi Gulati, founder of Sanyukta Yoga, a Gita teacher, presented small Bhagwad Gita books with meanings of the verses to all the participants.

Dr Sangeeta, an educator since 35 years has designed several courses on the lessons from the Bhagwad Gita, after an experience of 3 years of workshops with children, youth and professionals. These include 4 to 8 hours program for children from 8 yo 15 years and teenagers 16 to 19 years, youth 20 to 30 years, professionals, and any adult who is interested. She had specially designed these programmes with an objective to sow the seeds of curiosity towards the most sought after book the Bhagwad Gita in the world, a timeless treasure of knowledge and a manual on how to live.

The key lessons taken away are :

  1. How to remain happy parmanently;
  2. Mind can be our enemy or friend
  3. Duty with right attitude and responsibility;
  4. Never attach yourself with the outcomes of your efforts;
  5. Desire, Anger and greed are the root cause of all the evils and three doors to hell;
  6. Both Divine and demoniac nature is present in us, we have to improve the divinity;
  7. We must see everyone with equal eye, there is God in everything;
  8. There are three modes of nature in every thing and everyone, Satva, Rajas and Tamas, we have to work to increase Satva;
  9. We are what we eat , eat satvik food more for health and strength;
  10. God is everywhere, in our hearts too, look inside to find him, empower yourself for infinite success.
